What is hypnosis and is it safe?
Hypnosis or trance used during hypnotherapy is very different from the things we see in a stage hypnosis ‘show’. Every day we all go in and out of trance states many times – when we’re driving a regular route, reading a book, at the gym, washing the dishes etc. In this relaxed state we experience changes in our conscious awareness – very much like daydreaming. This is when our mind can focus on helpful thoughts and suggestions.
Hypnosis reduces anxiety, which is achieved through relaxation and visualisation, allowing you to focus on the positive aspects of your life, and encouraging a shift in perspective.
Rest-assured, trance is a very natural and safe state. It is NOT mind control. You will always be in control and will always be able to decide whether information or suggestions are useful to you or not. And being in a trance is a very relaxing experience.
How is Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy different to other types of therapy?
Unlike other forms of hypnotherapy, Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy (SFH) uses a specific therapeutic structure that incorporates Solution Focussed Brief Therapy, combined with an understanding of how the brain works (neuroscience), and hypnosis. In SFH we never look at the past, or focus on your problems, as they’re not necessary to help you formulate future goals and work towards finding your own solutions to move forward.
